Police on Sunday arrested a 32-year-old man, identified as Dinesh Ranwa, accused of ploughing his car into roadside food stalls at Kharbas Circle near Mansarovar on Jan 9, killing 1 person and injuring several others before fleeing the scene.DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said a special police team tracked him down after an extensive manhunt spanning several districts. The accused was accompanied by Mukesh, Pappu and Mangi Lal, who allegedly helped him escape. Mukesh and Pappu were arrested last week, police said. They also arrested several others who allegedly provided money, transport and shelter to help the main accused evade arrest. Police froze the accused’s bank accounts and UPI as part of the investigation.
Raids were conducted at solar power plant sites linked to him, and CCTV footage from hotels, dhabas, and truck halting points along the Ring Road scanned.Police examined footage from around 500 CCTV cameras and conducted searches along more than 100km of the Ring Road and adjoining highways. Based on technical surveillance and informer inputs, the accused was finally traced and arrested from the Ring Road area.Further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and the role of all those who allegedly aided the accused.
