HYDERABAD: Counting for the Telangana Municipal Corporation elections is underway across more than 116 municipalities and seven corporations, following voting on Wednesday.The Congress party has taken an early lead in the two municipalities of Mahabubnagar district in the Telangana 2026 municipal election results.In Devarakadra municipality, which has 12 wards, Congress has secured 6 wards, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has won 4, the BJP 1, and 1 ward went to an independent candidate.On Wednesday, elections were held across seven Municipal Corporations and 116 Municipalities in Telangana, covering 414 wards in the corporations of Kothagudem, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, and Ramagundam, and 2,582 wards in the 116 municipalities.The Telangana Municipal Election was held peacefully with over 73 per cent of voters exercising their franchise on Wednesday in the municipal elections, which passed off well, barring minor skirmishes at a few places.Earlier on Wednesday, Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao expressed confidence that the party would win a significant number of seats, saying the people of Telangana were likely to give a “big mandate” to the Bharatiya Janata Party.Rao said, “Last time we had around 330 municipal councillors and corporators and three chairmen. But this time, I am sure the people of Telangana will give a big mandate to the Bharatiya Janata Party. We are hopeful that we will fare better and we will be the alternative to the Congress party.”
