Thane: The Anti-Human Trafficking Cell of crime branch on Saturday busted a sex racket operating out of a local hotel in the Wagle Estate area. A 26-year-old woman, who reportedly works as an actor in Hindi web series, was arrested for allegedly acting as a pimp and luring women into the trade. During the raid, two victims, aged 40 and 48, were rescued. According to the FIR, the accused used WhatsApp calls to coordinate with clients, demanding Rs 25,000 for services from aspiring actors and TV artists.
The accused, a resident of Malad, revealed that she turned to the trade due to lack of regular acting work and financial pressure to support her family in Bihar. She claimed she kept Rs 15,000 as commission from each transaction. Police seized items worth Rs 11,610, including two mobile phones used for the racket.
