Maharashtra: Cops bust arms racket, arrests 20-yr-old with 4 pistols worth Rs 4 lakh

Thane: The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Thane City Crime Branch arrested a 20-year-old man with four country-made pistols and live ammunition worth over Rs 4 lakh near Bhiwandi, officials said.Acting on a tip-off from police hawaldar Amol Desai, a team intercepted Sohil Beg Shorab Beg Mirza, a resident of Alampur in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, near Dev Chowk on Dombivli Bypass Road on Feb 2. The operation was part of a special drive initiated by the police commissioner against illegal possession of weapons. “This is a significant breakthrough in our ongoing campaign against illegal arms,” said a senior crime branch official.A case was registered at Narpoli Police Station under relevant sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. The accused was produced before court, which remanded him to police custody until Feb 9.Investigators are now probing the supply chain to identify the source of the firearms and potential buyers. “We are investigating whether this is part of a larger network supplying illegal weapons in the region,” the official added.
