KUALA LUMPUR: Numbers forecast operator Magnum 4D Bhd has rolled out a new feature, dubbed as “PlayNow”, embedded in its mobile application, allowing customers to generate a QR code for their bets in a move aimed at smoothing operations and reducing queues at physical outlets.
The feature enables customers to select their numbers digitally and present a generated QR code at Magnum outlets, eliminating the need to manually fill out paper slips. Payment, however, is still completed at the counter.
Executive vice-president and group chief operating officer Datuk Chong Fhui said the initiative is part of Magnum’s broader digital transformation, which focuses on enhancing customer experience rather than pushing customers fully into digital transactions.
“For Magnum, technology is meant to simplify, not complicate,” he told the media during the launch of the feature.
“PlayNow focuses on speed, convenience and safety, allowing customers to generate a QR code instead of writing on paper, saving time and reducing errors.”
He added the feature also speeds up transactions at outlets and reduces paper usage, supporting the group’s sustainability efforts. “Overall, our goal is to make the purchasing experience simpler, more efficient and convenient,” Chong said.
Magnum currently operates close to 500 outlets nationwide, and Chong said each outlet is now equipped with an express lane that allows customers to present their generated QR code, which is scanned by front-line staff at the counter to complete the transaction.
After scanning the QR code, customers still make payment at the outlet and receive a physical ticket, which remains mandatory under the Pool Betting Act.
