LU slaps show cause notices on seven students for Jan 17 clash

Lucknow: LU’s proctorial board has issued show cause notices to seven students belonging to student organisations ABVP and BAPSA in connection with the clash that occurred at gate 11 of the university campus. The Jan 17 incident had led to tension on the campus, prompting the administration to initiate disciplinary proceedings. The students who have been served show cause notices are MA political science first year student Amitesh Pal, PhD psychology scholar Manas Rawat, BA-LLB final year student Akash Katheria and BSc biology third year student Ashwani Kumar of BAPSA; BA third year student Vivek Mishra, BA third year student Shivam Kumar Singh and PhD English scholar Pratyush Pandey of ABVP.

According to the notice, the students have been directed to appear in person and submit their written explanations before the competent authority within three working days of receiving the letter. The notice states that failure to respond within the stipulated time will be treated as having no defence, after which proceedings for their suspension from the university may be initiated. LU proctor Rakesh Dwivedi said, “The inquiry committee examined all aspects related to the incident at gate no. 11. Based on its findings, show cause notices have been issued to the students concerned, seeking their explanation as part of the due disciplinary process.”
