Lucknow: A PhD scholar in the department of education at Lucknow University was trapped inside a lift for more than an hour on Thursday afternoon after a power failure.The scholar said the lift stopped suddenly. She said that normally, during a power cut, the lift reaches the ground floor and opens automatically, but this time it got stuck. “For around an hour I was stuck, there was a delay in response,” she said.“I panicked. Luckily, I had a water bottle, so I did not get thirsty, but I was short of breath. It was dark, and I was sweating. I was praying. I called my friends and informed them that I was trapped inside the lift,” she said.Students claimed that they called the works department and proctor office for help, but their calls were not answered.Students also tried to open the lift themselves and continued their efforts for nearly an hour before she was rescued after the department staff brought the emergency lift key to open the lift.However, LU spokesperson Mukul Srivastava claimed that the girl was rescued promptly after the authorities were alerted and the responsible officials responded immediately to the situation.
