Lucknow: Lucknow Development Authority will develop sports arenas at three locations beneath Green Corridor, offering facilities for badminton, basketball, tennis, pickleball and box cricket, along with kids’ play areas and open gyms. Plan was finalised after LDA V-C Prathamesh Kumar inspected the corridor on Tuesday. Officials said vacant spaces under the corridor near Nishatganj Bridge, Hanuman Setu and Daliganj Bridge will be used to create sports and recreation infrastructure on the lines of sports arena built under Gwari Flyover in Gomtinagar, where basketball and badminton courts are already operational. Kumar said, “Substantial vacant space is available beneath the Green Corridor, which will be developed for public use with sports arenas, play areas and open gyms.” During the inspection, instructions were issued to install sculptures at newly built intersections and to undertake plantation work along the medians. Double-arm streetlights will be installed on the Nishatganj–Hanuman Setu stretch. The Green Corridor project from Samatamulak to Daliganj is in its final phase and is likely to be opened for public movement after its inauguration later this month. Road-widening work is also underway between Nishatganj and Hanuman Setu. Encroachment and roadside parking were observed near the Khatu Shyam Temple, along with temporary stalls selling puja items. Officials directed the development of a designated parking space and vending zone near the temple. Additionally, the LDA is developing Urmila Van over about 18 acres near the Kukrail river. To improve access, a slip road will be constructed from the Kukrail side, connecting Urmila Van with the Riverfront and easing movement between the two sites.
