Jaisalmer: A video, which surfaced on social media Saturday, showing a lawyer being held, beaten, and forced to wear a garland of shoes, has led to cross cases being filed at Chohtan police station in Barmer, with the lawyer accusing a woman and her family of blackmailing him after a honeytrap, and the woman accusing the lawyer of having raped her repeatedly over several months.According to the lawyer, Ranjit Kumar, the woman first approached him seven to eight months ago seeking legal help in a dispute related to a pathway through her field. He said the matter was presented before the SDM at Ramsar and Chohtan, and that when competing claims emerged he asked for an additional fee of Rs 10,000. He alleged that the woman then called her to Chohtan in Dec.In his complaint, the lawyer claimed the woman also asked him to represent her in a rape case already registered at Sheo police station against a man named Shambhusingh. He alleged that when he met her, the woman pressured him into an illicit relationship and took nude photographs. He claimed that upon being blackmailed, he transferred a total of Rs 1.19 lakh to the woman in Dec and Jan.The lawyer further alleged that on Jan 17, the woman called him to her house, where her husband and several others allegedly confined him, assaulted him, tied his hands and demanded money. He claimed Rs 12,000 was taken from his pocket, and that photos and videos were recorded.The woman filed her own complaint on Sunday, alleging that the lawyer raped her multiple times over the past seven to eight months and used nude photos to threaten her. She claimed that CCTV footage exists of his visits to her house.In her account of Jan 17, she alleged the lawyer entered her home drunk and tried to force himself on her, after which she screamed and her husband and nearby people intervened.Chohtan DSP Jetharam Jaypal said police on the night of Jan 17 had arrested the lawyer and his brother on breach of peace charges and the matter remains under investigation.
