Lawn, DJ operators violating norms to face music: Police

Varanasi: Ignoring prescribed norms related to parking, sound limits and timings will invite strict action against marriage lawns, banquet halls, hotels and DJ operators in Varanasi. During a meeting with marriage lawn and DJ operators on Tuesday evening, Commissioner of Police Mohit Agrawal asked them to maintain smooth traffic management during wedding processions and other events to avoid road obstruction and noise pollution problems. The CP directed operators of marriage lawns, banquets and hotels to ensure vehicles of guests and participants of wedding ceremonies and other events at their venues were parked only in the parking areas shown in approved maps inside the premises. If designated parking is found being used for other purposes, actions like licence cancellation will be taken.Lawn operators were directed to deploy three to four employees for outside parking arrangements, not to allow any encroachment or traffic obstruction on roads during events, and to establish coordination with traffic police by pre-determining wedding procession routes. “Determine the route before taking out the wedding procession and establish coordination with traffic police,” the CP asked the operators.Besides, band operators were prohibited from bursting firecrackers, creating excessive noise or indulging in activities that endanger public safety. They were directed to mandatorily use ropes during wedding processions, restrict movement to one-third of the road and keep the remaining portion open for regular traffic. DJ operators were instructed to stop playing music after 10pm, ensure sound levels do not exceed 80 decibels, and avoid parking vehicles at locations that obstruct traffic. The Police Commissioner also clarified that violations would attract strict legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act, the Noise Pollution Control Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
