In a troubling incident in Lakhisarai, a young girl of eight was snatched away and assaulted by a 50-year-old man while she was picking flowers for Mahashivratri festivities. Fortunately, vigilant locals sprang into action, saving the girl and apprehending the suspect, who is reported to have a troubling past of harassing women.

Patna: An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 50-year-old man in Lakhisarai district on Sunday.The accused allegedly abducted the girl while she was in a garden plucking flowers for Mahashivratri. Local people rushed to the spot after hearing the girl’s scream and freed her from the accused. The accused was arrested after locals provided information to the police.

The SHO said: “Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused often harassed women and girls in the village.” The accused’s wife along with her children had left him 10 years ago.“The accused is being interrogated. The FSL team collected evidence from the place. To confirm the rape, police got conducted a medical examination of the girl. According to the doctors, the child is in a mental shock and also needs counselling,” the SHO said.He added that the accused will be punished through a speedy trial.
