KURUKSHETRA: A Fast Track Special Court dealing with rape and POCSO Act cases has awarded stringent punishment to an accused on Thursday, convicted of abducting a minor girl and committing sexual assault on her. Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ), Kurukshetra, sentenced Gurmeet, a resident of Neemwala village in Kurukshetra district, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of Rs 1.30 lakh.Providing details, the Kurukshetra District Attorney said that on June 5, 2022, a resident of Kurukshetra lodged a complaint at Ismailabad police station stating that his minor daughter had gone missing from home on June 4, 2022 without informing anyone. The complainant suspected that Gurmeet had enticed and taken his daughter away. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act and initiated an investigation.
During the course of investigation, the missing minor girl was traced and recovered. Her medical examination was conducted as per procedure. The accused was arrested and subsequently sent to judicial custody on court orders. After completion of investigation, the police filed the challan before the competent court.After regular hearings in the Fast Track Special Court, the ADSJ, on February 5, 2026, held the accused guilty on the basis of witness testimonies and documentary evidence.The court sentenced Gurmeet under Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act, the court awarded the maximum punishment of 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh, with an additional six months’ imprisonment in case of default. Under IPC Section 363 to five years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000, under IPC Section 366 to five years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000, and under IPC Section 344 to three years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000. In each case, failure to pay the fine will result in additional simple imprisonment of one month.
