Koti ATM shooting: Two held in Rs 6L robbery

Hyderabad: Task Force sleuths arrested two offenders involved in the robbery of Rs 6 lakh from a Kerala-based garments businessman, PV Rinshad, after opening fire at him near an SBI ATM in Koti on Jan 31.The arrested were identified as Furkhan Ahmed (36), from Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, and Md Taiyyab Tyagi (30), a resident of Shaheen Nagar in Balapur. Police recovered a country-made pistol, 35 live rounds, two magazines, Rs 2.3 lakh in cash, and two mobile phones from them.According to police, Taiyyab, who works as a driver for app-based cab aggregators, used his early-morning trips through Abids, Koti, and Nampally to observe customers carrying large cash deposits to banks. Facing financial difficulties and with prior involvement in a robbery in Muzaffarnagar, he contacted his uncle Naushad and cousin Danish Tyagi, who roped in Furkhan, Abid, and Faheem Ahmed, all from Uttar Pradesh.On Jan 31, Furkhan and Faheem waited near an ATM in Koti while Taiyyab and Abid conducted recce near Nampally and identified the victim. After tracking his movement to the SBI ATM, the accused attempted to rob him. When he resisted, Furkhan fired two rounds, one of which pierced the victim’s leg. The duo then snatched the cash bag and fled on the victim’s two-wheeler.The gang later regrouped at Shaheen Nagar and dispersed to different states. Six special police teams tracked the suspects using technical surveillance and apprehended the duo at Shaheen Nagar on Feb 24. Efforts are on to nab the remaining absconding accused.
