Gurgaon: Travelling on the service road of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway near the Kherki Daula toll plaza has become difficult for daily commuters and residents of nearby sectors, as a damaged stretch has remained unrepaired for over two months.A section of the service road opposite Hyatt Regency Hotel, near the Sector 76-77 junction, has lost its top asphalt layer, exposing loose gravel and stones. The condition has worsened due to the frequent movement of heavy vehicles such as trucks and dumpers. Moreover, broken patches along the road have added to dust pollution in the area.During peak hours, traffic slows down on the damaged stretch as vehicles move cautiously over the uneven surface, leading to congestion.

Commuters said the loose stones and rough patches increase the risk of skidding and damage to vehicles. The U-turn for vehicles coming from the Jaipur side near the toll plaza is also in poor condition. The surface there is rough and uneven, forcing motorists to make manoeuvres to avoid damaged sections. Jersey barriers at the location are also not properly placed.Dhirendra Singh, a resident of Mapsko Mount Ville who uses the road daily, said, “Potholes have made driving extremely unsafe. Moreover, frequent water discharge from tankers into a nearby storm drain causes waterlogging at that spot, which further damages the road. Even at the U-turn, temporary patchwork using concrete has made the surface rough and bumpy. This should be properly repaired by NHAI.”The service road was resurfaced in Nov ahead of Urban Mobility India conference. However, according to commuters, the quality of work was poor, with the asphalt layer peeling off within days.“The service road was resurfaced before the monsoon last year and later repaired in Nov,but has remained damaged for the past two months. Heavy truck movement has further deteriorated the surface and caused congestion at the Sector 76-77 junction. Dust from the damaged road affects visibility and vehicles need to move slowly to avoid damage,” Krishan Pratap Singh, a resident of Palm Hills, said.Motorists travelling further ahead face similar problems at the Rampura Chowk junction.

The damaged road surface has made the junction accident-prone, with loose stones increasing the risk of skidding, especially for two-wheelers.Responding to the issue, a senior official at NHAI’s project implementing unit (PIU), Rewari, said, “The agency will take up repairs of the service road soon.”Meanwhile, another NHAI official did not give a clear assurance on repairing the surface at the U-turn near the Kherki Daula toll plaza, which falls under PIU Dwarka. He maintained that, as per norms, there should not be a U-turn at the location as it is road safety hazard. “Multi-axle vehicles taking the turn exert additional pressure, accelerating damage,” he added.
