Kangra administration allows daytime trekking on select routes

Kangra: The Kangra district administration has decided to open trekking on select mountain routes in the district during daytime.Kangra deputy commissioner Hemraj Bairwa on Tuesday said trekking on the Kareri Lake trek, Triund trek, and Adi Himani Chamunda trek would be allowed only during daytime – from sunrise to sunset.

The requirement of submitting prior intimation forms at the police station for these routes has also been withdrawn. However, night trekking on all these routes will remain completely prohibited, said the DC.This decision was taken with the objective of ensuring public safety while maintaining a balance in tourism activities, he said.Bairwa said, except for these three routes, the earlier restriction on trekking in areas above 3,000 metres would continue to remain in force. In case the India Meteorological Department issues any warning or alert, trekking activities will be suspended immediately, he added.The DC further said in case of violation of the order, action would be taken against the trekker and the guide concerned under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
