Imphal: Unidentified armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle of a journalist of a local daily, before assaulting him on Wednesday night in Imphal, police sources said.The attack occurred around 10pm near the War Cemetery at Hatta in Imphal East as the journalist, Khoirom Loiyalakpa, was returning home.Police said a car followed his vehicle and intercepted it in the area. The assailants allegedly blocked his path and fired two rounds at his car, then pulled him out and struck him with a blunt object, injuring his face.A complaint has been filed at Porompat Police Station and an investigation is underway. Officials said the motive remains unclear.The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union and the Editors’ Guild of Manipur held an emergency meeting on Thursday afternoon and condemned the incident. The two bodies also decided to hold a sit-in protest on Friday from 10am to 1pm.
