Bengaluru: Veteran actress and former minister Jayamala was elected president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) Saturday after defeating Sandalwood producer Bhama Harish in a keenly contested election.Polling and counting were held on the same day, with Jayamala securing 512 out of the 813 votes cast for the top post to register a comfortable victory.The election saw active participation from across the Kannada film industry, with prominent actors, producers, distributors, exhibitors and technicians turning up to vote. Actors including Shiva Rajkumar and Dali Dhananjay were among those present at the polling venue, reflecting the significance of the exercise for the industry.The victory of Jayamala marks her second stint as KFCC president, having earlier served in the role in 2008. She is set to assume charge at a time when the industry is facing challenges such as fluctuating theatrical revenues, distribution reforms and changing exhibition models.Elections were also held for several other key posts, including vice-president, treasurer, secretary and honorary secretaries representing the distribution and exhibition sectors. The polling took place at the Gururaja Kalyana Mantapa, located adjacent to the Film Chamber premises. Sundar Raju (producer), K Manju (distributor) and Kishore (exhibitor) were elected as honorary vice-presidents, while A Ganesh (producer), Ramesh (distributor) and Ashok (exhibitor) were elected to the secretary posts.

Jayasimha Musuri was elected treasurer.
