Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Gets Morning Relief, Evening Setback — Next Hearing Jan 21

The most awaited film in the Tamil film industry, ‘Jana Nayagan’, is reportedly still entwined in a series of censorship, legal, political, and OTT issues. There being no clarity regarding a theatrical release, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is creating a lot of buzz in the film industry. The fans are looking forward to each news update related to the film, as it is made on a huge budget, has political overtones, and is a very important project in Thalapathy Vijay‘s career.

Era Saravanan breaks silence on censor controversy

Director Era Saravanan, famous for Nandhan and closely linked to filmmaker H. Vinoth, has weighed in on the censor fiasco with respect to ‘Jana Nayagan’. In an interview with Filmibeat, Saravanan stated that it was not coincidental but intentionally planned that ‘Jana Nayagan’ faced obstacles for reasons completely different than the film itself. He mentioned that ‘Jana Nayagan’ is an adaptation of Bhagavanth Kesari and Vinoth being a senior director always knew about the sensitivity of the CBFC even during scripting and shooting. Saravanan further remarked that H Vinoth would not have put any material in the scenes or dialogues that would require censor complaints. He insisted that the present problem is not a failure on the part of the director.

‘Jana Nayagan’ takes the emotional core of ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’

While elaborating on ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’, Anil Ravipudi revealed that the ‘Jana Nayagan’ sequence remains mostly the same in the initial segments and important parts. However, when he said that new chapters were added to the Tamil version of the movie as the antagonist’s story had undergone a complete change, it was a completely different matter. Meanwhile, in a different development, the Madras High Court Division Bench, in another case, will defer announcing its order related to the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) writ appeal on January 27, 2026, instead of January 23, 2026.

‘Jana Nayagan’ likely to release in February

Apart from the prospect of legal measures, there is yet another hazard in relation to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026. The Model Code of Conduct, which could be invoked after the elections are announced, may give the Election Commission the authority to obligate the censoring of the film if it allows for the questioning of political neutrality of the movie, especially because Vijay contested the elections through his party, TVK. Trade experts suggest that ‘Jana Nayagan’ must hit theaters by February 6, or February 13 at the absolute latest. Any further delay risks a direct clash with the 2026 Tamil Nadu State Elections, which could force the producers to postpone the film’s release by at least a month.Disclaimer: This report is based on current judicial filings and reports from legal correspondents.
