Indian Navy initiates board of inquiry into waste stockyard fire at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai

Mumbai: The Indian Navy has initiated a board of inquiry into a fire that erupted at a waste stockyard at the Naval Dockyard on Thursday night. “The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes,” said a source, adding that no one was injured in the incident.A naval team assessed the damaged material and found that only scraps had perished in the blaze. The team also checked CCTV footage from the surrounding area to get a lead on the cause of the fire.“The fire could have been caused due to material, like clothes or fabric used to clean oil, or other combustible material,” said an official.A defence spokesperson issued a note on Thursday night: “A fire broke out in one of the waste stockyards at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai late in the evening. Fire brought under control in swift action by Naval fire tenders. No casualty has been reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated.”
