JAISALMER: The Indian Army’s Battle Axe Division conducted integrated firing drills in forward areas of Rajasthan’s desert sector on Tuesday to validate combat strategies, tactics and operational procedures.During the exercise, a tank platform was used to test and evaluate the firing capability of Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs), along with other onboard weapon systems.
The drill aimed to assess combat readiness, fire accuracy and rapid response capability under realistic battlefield conditions. Senior officers of the Battle Axe Division were present to oversee the live firing and review operational performance.In a related training activity, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles took part in coordinated combat drills. A notable feature of the vehicles was the presence of cage or slat armour — likely a field modification intended to enhance protection against incoming projectiles, particularly anti-armour threats. The modification reflects adaptive battlefield innovation tailored to evolving combat scenarios.One of the key highlights of the exercise was the firing of an Anti-Tank Guided Missile from a BMP-2 platform, demonstrating precision targeting and swift engagement capability. The drill focused on validating tactics and procedures under simulated combat conditions in challenging desert terrain.Officials said the integrated firing drills form part of the Army’s regular training cycle to sharpen operational preparedness and maintain high standards of battlefield efficiency. By combining mobility, firepower and protective adaptations, troops reaffirmed their readiness to respond decisively to any emerging threat along India’s western frontier.The exercise tested precision strike capability, rapid response mechanisms and coordination among combat units in realistic battlefield conditions. Troops displayed strong marksmanship and swift reaction times, while the Desert Warriors demonstrated discipline and teamwork. Commanders closely monitored the live-fire exercise, which included synchronised targeting and testing of advanced fire control systems. Soldiers also practised rapid deployment in difficult desert terrain to enhance mobility and operational effectiveness.The drills were conducted under the aegis of the Konark Corps, which commended the troops for their professionalism and high standards of performance.
