India a centre of faith, says Puri Shankaracharya

Prayagraj: Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati of Govardhan Math, Puri, Odisha, said on Monday, “Even in the age of rockets, computers, and atomic bombs, India remains a centre of faith for the entire world. It is here that the Lord of the Universe himself was born. The world acknowledges and respects India’s intellectual prowess.”He further said, “Politicians should stay away from the lust for power, and subject matter experts should be included in the cabinet.” India should remain devoted to the Sanatana principles as the entire world is looking towards India, he added. On cow protection, the Shankaracharya said that for the protection of cows grazing land should be reserved in every district of all states of the country. And every district of every state should have a centre and a part of the land reserved for cows to roam freely, he said. Explaining the importance of Kalpavas (a period of religious observance), the Puri Shankaracharya said that observing Kalpavas with proper discipline and bathing at the confluence of rivers paves the way for both worldly and spiritual progress. The authenticity of Sanatana principles is proven by explaining the knowledge and art of the Sanatana tradition from the perspective of philosophy, science, and practice.Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalanand Saraswati said that turning a place of penance into a tourist centre means transforming it into a place of indulgence. Today, this is what is called development, which in reality is destruction.
