Rourkela: Doctors at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here have reconstructed the face of a 26-year-old man who suffered severe craniofacial injuries in a road accident.According to a press release issued by RSP on Sunday, the patient faced a serious injury on Jan 15.
He was first treated at a private hospital before being transferred to IGH the next day due to his critical condition.
Medical scans revealed pneumocephalus with a left frontal bone depressed fracture (fort grade-III) and a mandibular fracture, pointing to extensive trauma. The patient arrived with a visibly deformed face, difficulty in breathing and restricted mouth movement. Dr G S Sahoo and Dr Ruby Singh performed the intricate reconstructive surgery, with Dr Manoranjan Samantray providing anaesthesia support. Following surgery, the patient made steady recovery, resumed oral intake and achieved near-complete restoration of facial symmetry, the release said.
