HYDRAA inspects encroachments at Khajaguda lake

Hyderabad: Following complaints alleging encroachments and illegal alterations at Khajaguda lake, the HYDRAA commissioner, AV Ranganath, conducted a field-level inspection on Tuesday.During the site visit, officials observed that the lake’s sluice gates and surplus channels had been blocked and diverted. The inspection revealed that a smaller downstream lake connected to Khajaguda lake had undergone significant physical alterations, resulting in a change to its original structure and alignment. The team also identified encroachments within the Full Tank Level (FTL) limits of Khajaguda lake, where temporary sheds and other structures had reportedly been erected. Officials observed that portions of the lake bed and its natural boundaries appeared to have been occupied, raising concerns over violations of water body protection norms.HYDRAA has decided to examine land ownership documents held by individuals claiming private ownership within the affected areas. The agency stated that further action would be based on the verification of records and technical assessments of the lake’s original boundaries and hydrological connections.
