Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Tuesday removed encroachments at four locations in the city following complaints and field inspections.HYDRAA officials said the agency secured 12 acres of lake land, including four acres of Jangam Kunta in Kondapur and eight acres of Alwal Kotha Cheruvu, along with two public parks. The total value of the secured land is estimated to be around Rs 1,511 crore. In Kondapur, along the Serilingampally municipal office to Madinaguda road, HYDRAA intervened to remove encroachments upon Jangam Kunta lake. Officials said the lake area was filled with soil and levelled, allegedly to convert it into plots for sale. “Following media reports, we conducted a joint inspection with revenue officials and confirmed that the site was a water body. Revenue authorities registered cases against those involved, and fencing was erected on Tuesday,” said AV Ranganath, HYDRAA commissioner.Encroachments were also removed from Alwal Kotha Cheruvu in Medchal–Malkajgiri district. Residents lodged grievances via the Prajavani platform that plastic compression units were operating within the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) area, leading to pollution. Temporary sheds and other structures were also found within the FTL area. After field verification, HYDRAA officials removed the illegal structures, stating that no construction is permitted within FTL limits. In addition, HYDRAA secured two public parks in the city. A 650-square-yard park in Jakkidi Nagar colony of Vanasthalipuram, which was earmarked as park land during a layout formation in the early 1980s, was cleared of encroachments and fenced. “Another 450-square-yard park in Radhakrishna Nagar under Malkajgiri zone, gifted to GHMC, was also secured after removing a compound wall and temporary sheds,” Ranganath said.
