Shimla: In a move to boost air connectivity and promote high-end tourism, the Himachal Pradesh govt announced the operationalisation of regular flights on the Delhi–Shimla and Shimla–Dharamshala routes 7 days a week by providing financial support of Rs 31 crore annually to ensure the sustained operation of these services.According to a govt statement, tourism is a top priority, and multiple initiatives were launched to enhance visitor facilities. The new flights are expected to reduce travel time, improve accessibility, and facilitate smooth movement for tourists, business travellers, and residents. Reliable air connectivity will also aid administrative functions, enable faster medical evacuations, and ensure a timely response during emergencies or natural disasters.
The state currently has 3 operational airports, with several helipads and heliports under construction at district headquarters and major tourist destinations. Recently, helicopter services from Sanjauli in Shimla to Chandigarh and Reckong Peo in Kinnaur were launched, allowing tourists to enjoy the scenic beauty of Himachal. Additional routes, including Sanjauli–Rampur–Reckong Peo and Sanjauli–Manali, were proposed to the director general of civil aviation and are awaiting approval. MSID: 127701537 413 |
