Jaipur: Rajasthan high court Wednesday framed charges against former MLA and BJP member Girraj Singh Malinga in a case involving the alleged assault on assistant engineer (AEN) Harshadapati and junior engineer (JEN) Nitin Gulati at the Bari Discom office in Dholpur on March 28, 2022. The assault was allegedly carried out by Malinga and his supporters.Malinga, a Congress legislator at the time of the assault, and his associates were accused of assaulting the engineers, obstructing govt work, and violating provisions of the SC/ST Act. Harshadapati had reported suffering 22 bone fractures in the attack, which led to the arrest of 5 individuals. Counsel for Harshadapati, Malti, said, “Charges were framed 4 years after the incident against Malinga and others under section various sections of the IPC and the SC/ST Act.”On Nov 7, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition filed by Malinga, challenging the Rajasthan high court’s decision to transfer the trial from Dholpur to Jaipur. The high court previously ordered the transfer of the trial to Jaipur on July 7, 2025, citing concerns over witness safety and the influential status of the accused in the Dholpur region. The decision came after a criminal transfer petition was filed by Harshadapati, the primary victim in the case, who expressed fears of intimidation and influence by the accused.
