KANPUR: HDFC Bank employee Astha Singh, whose video of a verbal spat with a man recently went viral on social media, on Tuesday said the incident has been “misrepresented” and clarified that it was not related to any customer.Singh said the altercation involved her colleague’s husband, who she alleged misbehaved with her. She added that her reference to her caste was made only after she was prompted, and asserted that she is proud of her Thakur background. Singh also said she plans to take legal action over what she described as a misrepresentation of the incident.“This incident has been misrepresented and is not related to any customer. The matter involves my colleague’s husband, who misbehaved with me, and the video was my response to that behaviour. I mentioned my caste only because I was asked to. I am a Thakur and proud of it,” Astha said according to ANI.
She expressed disappointment over the episode being portrayed as one involving “casteism,” saying it had harmed her reputation on social media. She added that she would initiate legal proceedings against the man.“Unfortunately, the matter is being given a different colour. The colleague I was referring to is a Brahmin. I will certainly take legal action, as this has damaged my image on social media,” she said.According to Singh, the man had also argued with other staff members at the bank regarding his wife’s request for same-day relief after submitting her resignation. She said her exchange with him was recorded and later circulated online.“She had come to submit her resignation and wanted same-day relief, over which her husband had a banter with almost everyone. He faced me too in the same frustration and disrespected me. So he had a brawl with everyone; it’s just that mine went viral,” she said.In the viral video, Astha Singh is seen expressing anger during an argument with a man, while other bank employees attempt to calm her down. “To hell with you. Thakur hoon main (I am a Thakur), Do not mess with me,” she reacted angrily.
