HC to hear Muslim side amendment plea on Mar 12

Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court on Friday fixed Mar 12 as the next date of hearing on the amendment application moved by the Muslim side in the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah mosque dispute case. A lawyer representing the Muslim side, Tasneem Ahmadi, told the court that the amendment application had been allowed. However, the court did not find any such order, following which she sought time. Justice Avnish Saxena then fixed March 12 as the date of the next hearing. The contention involves 18 suits filed by the Hindu side for possession of the land after the removal of the Shahi Idgah Masjid as well as for restoration of the temple. On Aug 1, 2024, the high court rejected the applications of the Muslim side challenging the maintainability of suits of Hindu worshippers, holding that “all suits of Hindu worshippers are maintainable”. The court had held that these suits are not barred by the Limitation Act, Waqf Act and Places of Worship Act, 1991, which prohibit the conversion of any religious structure as existed on Aug 15, 1947.
