HC: Inspect Old Goa protected area for illegal structures

Panaji: The Bombay high court has instructed the town and country planning (TCP) department to inspect structures in the protected area of Old Goa. This decision comes in response to a petition filed by Vasco Dias, who has raised concerns over illegal structures conducting business activities within 300m of the Basilica of Bom Jesus.Dias claims that these illegal constructions are causing significant issues for local residents, including the dumping of waste and garbage on his property. In his petition, Dias is seeking immediate intervention to halt all construction and commercial activities in Old Goa. He has requested the authorities to take swift action to remove the illegal structures and seal those within the heritage site until legal proceedings are concluded.Additionally, he is urging the chief secretary or another designated state govt officer to investigate the legal violations and hold accountable both the officials and parties involved in these illegal constructions.
