Haryana bizman loses Rs 33L during bid to buy ‘herbal’ medicines

Kurukshetra: The district police arrested an accused involved in cheating people of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of selling ‘indigenous (herbal)’ medicines. Acting as per directions of Kurukshetra SP Nitish Aggarwal, a team of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) successfully apprehended the accused in the case.Providing details, the police spokesperson said on Wednesday that the accused was identified as Monu, a resident of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested for allegedly defrauding a complainant of a huge sum by luring him with claims of highly valuable herbal medicines. According to the complaint filed on April 29, 2024, the complainant, Karampal, a resident of Kaithal district, stated that he runs a spare parts business. He was acquainted with Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who used to visit him frequently. Some time ago, Jaswinder introduced him to Monu, claiming that Monu prepared medicines from herbs to treat heart diseases.

Monu allegedly told the complainant that the medicines he prepared were sold for lakhs of rupees. Believing their claims, Karampal agreed to a deal worth Rs 66 lakh for the preparation of the medicines. On April 9, 2022, he came to Ladwa and paid Rs 33 lakh in advance to Monu, with the remaining amount to be paid after receiving halfof the medicines. However, even after a long time, Monu neither delivered the medicines nor responded to phone calls. Following this, a case was registered at Ladwa police station, and after a preliminary investigation, the matter was transferred to the EOW. On February 10, 2026, the EOW arrested the accused from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The accused was produced before the court, and further legal proceedings are under way.Ends MSID:: 128211443 413 |
