Haridwar Kumbh Mela team to study Magh Mela as model for 2027 planning

Prayagraj: Impressed by the crowd management and planning during the ongoing Magh Mela that has so far seen footfall of over 21 crore devotees, a high-level delegation from Uttarakhand will visit Prayagraj next week on a two-day tour to study the UP model for successful conduct of Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2027.The team, led by Haridwar Kumbh Mela Officer, will conduct detailed inspections of crowd control strategies, accommodation arrangements, traffic management and emergency response systems. Special attention will be given to methods adopted to handle sudden surges in crowd numbers, coordination with institutions and stakeholder engagement. The findings are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the planning and execution of the Haridwar Kumbh. Officials from Nashik, Ujjain and the South Kumbh have already conducted similar studies. Kumbh Melas are traditionally held at 4 major locations—Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik and Ujjain. Following their observations, the Nashik Kumbh team proceeded with the Bhoomi Pujan for their own event while administrative teams from the South Kumbh, held on the banks of the Godavari River, also conducted on-ground studies in Prayagraj. Mela Officer Rishiraj described the Magh Mela 2026 as a new benchmark for organising large religious gatherings. “It is a matter of pride that the successful management of the Magh Mela is now guiding the planning of Kumbh Melas across the country, highlighting Prayagraj’s growing importance as a benchmark for large-scale event management in India,” he said. The massive turnout this year made Prayagraj a key case study for authorities, offering valuable lessons in logistics, safety measures, accommodation planning, and coordination for millions of visitors. Officials believe that the strategies adopted this year will not only streamline future Kumbh Melas but also enhance the city’s reputation as a model for managing large-scale religious congregations efficiently.
