Lucknow: In a case involving alleged sexual assault, robbery and police negligence, an FIR was registered against 12 named persons and 60 unidentified individuals in the Kachhauna police station area of Hardoi district. The station house officer (SHO) of Kachhauna, inspector Nirbhay Singh, was suspended for registering an FIR in favour of the accused. According to police sources, a clash broke out between two groups in a village under the Kachhauna kotwali area on the evening of Jan 25. The SHO allegedly registered an FIR based on the accused party’s statement on Jan 26. Following complaints of delay and alleged bias, and after a video of the assault went viral, superintendent of police AK Meena ordered action against the SHO.
On the SP’s directions, Kachhauna police registered a fresh FIR on Jan 28 based on the actual case, naming 12 accused and 60 unidentified persons, with seven accused being arrested on Thursday evening.The survivor had alleged that her complaint was deliberately ignored. In her FIR, she stated that on Jan 25, accused Wahab and Rafeeq assaulted her with sticks. While she travelled by car to lodge a complaint at the police station, her vehicle was intercepted. She alleged that her husband was brutally beaten and seriously injured, while accused Naseem sexually assaulted her. The accused allegedly robbed Rs20,000 in cash and a gold chain from the car. Villagers who tried to intervene were also beaten. A video of the incident surfaced on social media prompting cops to take action. ASP (East) Subodh Gautam confirmed that seven accused involved in the assault of the woman and her husband were arrested, while raids were underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
