Habitual bike thief gets 10-yr RI

Bhubaneswar: A local court on Saturday sentenced a habitual motorcycle thief to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh, invoking the organised crime provisions of BNS. The order was passed in connection with a motorcycle theft case registered at Shree Lingaraj police station last year. The convict, Deepak Kumar Sahoo alias Dipu, 34, was also awarded additional sentences in related offences, taking his cumulative punishment to 10 years.According to the prosecution, the accused stole a motorcycle parked outside a house at Hatsahi Bandadurga Lane in Old Town on May 27, 2025. Investigation revealed that Sahoo was a repeat offender, with more than 27 vehicle theft cases registered against him and his associates across the city. The prosecution examined five witnesses and the trial concluded within 249 days.
