Gurgaon: Traffic challan kiosks, the integrated command and control centre (ICCC), speed limits linked with Google Maps, safe school zones developed under Indian Roads Congress SP-32 guidelines and awareness campaigns including ‘Challan Nahin, Salaam Milega’ — the tableau that highlighted the role of technology in improving road safety in the city clinched the first prize for the traffic police.For their tableau — ‘Transformation through Technology: Road Safety, Life Safety’ — Gurgaon traffic police were declared the joint winners with the regional transport authority (RTA) during the 77th Republic Day celebrations held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium on Monday. “The message was simple — road safety is not just about rules, it is about protecting lives,” deputy commissioner of police Rajesh Mohan said.The DCP added, “This tableau won first prize because it clearly showcased how Gurgaon is using modern technology. From digital challan kiosks to ICCC, the presentation aimed to show how these measures are used to encourage safer driving practices and reduce road accidents in the city. Our focus has been on combining enforcement with education.”The winners — the two teams won first prizes — were chosen among a host of participants including schools, NCC cadets, police personnel, commandos, police band members, Madhuban Academy staff and officials from different departments. Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, who was the chief guest, presented the trophy to the DCP after hoisting the national flag and formally inaugurating the ceremony. Those present included the assistant commissioner of police Satpal Yadav, members of the Road Safety Organization (Gurgaon) and representatives from the Raahgiri Foundation and Hero MotoCorp. The tableau delivered a simple message that road safety is not only about enforcement but also about public responsibility. Officials said the initiative reflects Gurgaon’s efforts to use technology for safer roads and to remind citizens that following traffic rules helps protect lives. A parade and cultural programmes marked the event amid enthusiasm.
