GURGAON: A 28-year-old housekeeping staffer was allegedly beaten with bricks and stones in Nathupur after he chased three men who snatched his mobile phone near a liquor shop late on the night of Jan 14. Birbal Oran, who suffered grievous injuries in the assault, died two days later at PGI Rohtak.Oran, who was from Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, worked in DLF phase-2 area and stayed in a rented room in Nathupur. Police said he was standing near a liquor shop in Nathupur Mandi when the accused grabbed his phone and tried to flee. When he ran after them, they allegedly attacked him with bricks and stones, leaving him severely injured on the street.He was taken by an ambulance to the govt hospital in Sector 10, before being referred to PGI Rohtak because of the seriousness of his condition. Police said doctors declared him unfit to give a statement, and he died during treatment on Jan 16.A murder case was registered at DLF Phase-3 police station on a complaint by Oran’s sister, who came to Gurgaon after the family was informed about his condition.“On Monday, joint teams of Sikandarpur crime branch and Nathupur police outpost arrested three accused from Nathupur Bihari Mandi. They were identified as Naresh Kumar (24) from Madhubani, Raju Kumar Jha (28) from Sarsa, and Vipin Kumar (23) from Darbhanga in Bihar. During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to snatching the mobile phone and assaulting the victim when he tried to stop them,” said Sandeep Kumar, a police spokesperson.Police said Naresh Kumar has two previous theft cases registered in the city and an NDPS case in Assam. Investigators said further inquiry was underway to determine whether more people were involved.
