Khanna: The peace of this Ludhiana district town’s Khatika Mohalla neighbourhood was shattered in the early hours of Monday when unidentified assailants opened fire upon the house of prominent textile merchant and fashion designer Ashu Vijan.Vijan, well-known for designing outfits for several high-profile Punjabi musical artists, was inside the home with his family when the attack occurred around 3am. The attackers then targeted a vehicle parked outside, shattering the windshield.A police official said: “The suspects also attempted to set the vehicle on fire by sprinkling it with petrol, but they were unsuccessful before fleeing the spot.” Superintendent of police (investigations) Pawanjit Singh confirmed that the attackers had their faces and heads covered. “We are probing the matter from all angles and have constituted multiple teams to trace the suspects,” SP Pawanjit Singh said. “CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to identify the escape route, and forensic teams have collected evidence from the site.”Investigators are interviewing Vijan currently to determine if he had recently received extortion threats or was involved in any business disputes. While the motive remains unclear, the incident has sparked significant anxiety among local traders and residents.
