Govt kept Jamnagar ayurveda college shut for 5 years: Cong

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday accused the BJP-led state govt of keeping the historic Gulabkunverba Ayurveda College, founded in 1946, closed for the last five years, denying students access to affordable ayurveda education.GPCC media convenor Manish Doshi said the institution produced 60 ayurveda practitioners annually through its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. “It is deeply concerning that despite a govt resolution granting it national status on Nov 21, 2020, the college was not started.”Citing provisions of the Gujarat Ayurved University Act, 2021, Doshi said that the responsibility to determine the university headquarters, establish constituent undergraduate colleges, and approve postgraduate colleges or centres rests with the state govt. “Despite the act being in force for several years, no concrete decision was taken to resume UG or PG courses at the institution,” Doshi said.He claimed that delays in approvals by the ayurveda council over the past decade disrupted admissions in Gujarat. He also alleged that while govt and grant-in-aid colleges remained closed, private ayurveda colleges charged high fees, placing a financial burden on students.
