Ahmedabad: The second round of admissions for degree engineering courses has drawn a poor response from students. Of the 21,363 seats available in self-financed degree engineering colleges, only 291 seats were taken.Govt and grant-in-aid engineering colleges had 372 seats, but only two were taken. The situation was slightly better in diploma engineering admissions. Fourteen students enrolled in govt diploma colleges, while 254 students were admitted to private diploma engineering colleges. So, in all, 268 diploma engineering seats were taken. Education authorities and colleges are worried about the low admission numbers. Experts believe factors such as limited job opportunities, preference for alternative career paths, and migration of students to other professional courses may be contributing to the sharp fall in engineering admissions across the state.
