Ahmedabad: A 30-year-old woman from a village in Gandhinagar on Tuesday lodged a complaint with Pethapur police, alleging that her estranged husband created multiple Instagram accounts to post morphed photographs and derogatory comments to defame her.According to the FIR, the woman had been living with her parents for the past six months due to frequent fights with her husband. The couple has two daughters and a son. The husband lives in Ahmedabad and works at a factory. In her complaint, the woman stated that, due to repeated quarrels and her husband’s alleged alcohol addiction, she left her matrimonial home and returned to her parents with her children.She alleged that since Sep 12, 2025, her husband had been creating Instagram accounts under different names and uploading her photographs with derogatory captions and comments. The accused also allegedly shared the images as Instagram stories to make them widely visible.When she objected to the posts, he allegedly threatened her, stating that he would continue to create and circulate such content to tarnish her reputation.The complainant said the repeated uploading of such posts caused her mental harassment and social embarrassment. She has sought legal action against her husband for online harassment and defamation.Pethapur police registered an offence under provisions pertaining to cybercrime, criminal intimidation and defamation. Officials said digital evidence is being collected, and the social media accounts in question are being verified as part of the investigation.
