Ahmedabad: The special intensive revision of Gujarat’s voter list has trimmed the electorate by 13.39%. After months of verification, deletions and additions, the final roll stands at 4.40 crore voters, down from 5.08 crore in 2025. This double-digit percentage drop reflects a state-wide effort to update mortality records and migration data while integrating a new wave of first-time voters.The draft roll published by the office of the chief electoral officer in Dec 2025 listed 4.35 crore voters. Between the draft and the final publication, the electorate rose by 5.61 lakh voters, a 1.29% increase.The Dec 2025 draft list had recorded 73.73 lakh deletions. Of these, 40.33 lakh voters were found to have permanently shifted, 18.05 lakh were deceased, 9.80 lakh were absent from their registered addresses, 3.79 lakh had duplicate voter cards, and 1.95 lakh were deleted for other reasons.Following objections and verification after the draft publication, an additional 3.96 lakh names were deleted from the rolls. At the same time, 9.56 lakh voters were added to the final list, including new electors who turned 18 in Jan 2026 and those left out of the draft roll.District-wise, Ahmedabad topped the state in absolute numbers with 49.13 lakh voters in the final roll, up from 48.07 lakh in the draft — a net rise of 1,05,632 voters. The district also recorded the highest additions at 1,53,234 new electors, the largest figure among all districts.In percentage terms, Dang registered the highest proportional increase at 2.15%, although its total voter base stands at 1.95 lakh. Other districts with notable percentage growth were Porbandar (2.12%), Jamnagar (2.01%), Botad (1.98%), Chhota Udepur (1.96%), and Gandhinagar (1.81%).Among major urban centres, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot reported substantial additions, reflecting migration patterns and youth enrolment. Surat added 1,01,578 voters but deleted 85,734 names — the highest deletion figure in the state — resulting in a net increase of 15,844 voters and a percentage growth of 0.44%. The 85,734 deletions account for approximately 21.67% of the 3.96 lakh names removed statewide after the draft list.Surendranagar was the only district to record a net decline compared to the draft roll. While 21,316 voters were added, 21,415 names were deleted, leading to a marginal drop of 99 voters.
