Gujarat budget 2026-27: Govt allots Rs 152 crore for research park, hostels and sports infra at LD Engineering College

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat govt allocated a total budget of Rs 152 crore to develop major infrastructure facilities, including a state-of-the-art research park, at LD College of Engineering (LDCE), the largest engineering college in the state. The announcement was made in the state budget, keeping in mind the needs of nearly 7,000 students studying at the institution.Out of the total allocation, Rs 51 crore was earmarked in the first phase for the establishment of an advanced research park. For the first time in Gujarat, such a significant amount was sanctioned for a research park at a govt engineering college. Sources said the park will be developed across seven key areas: computer and ICT, automation and robotics, electronics and semiconductor, chemical engineering, finance technology, applied sciences, and Kawach cyber security education.

The research park will be built within the college campus over an area of approximately 2,000 to 3,000 sq m. Advanced laboratories equipped with modern technology will be set up to enable students to undertake cutting-edge research in areas such as artificial intelligence and robotics. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between industry and academia and enhance students’ direct interaction with industries, thereby improving employment opportunities. Five old blocks on the campus were approved for demolition to make way for the new facility.In addition, Rs 51 crore was allocated for the construction of two new hostel blocks. Currently, hostel facilities are available for 1,200 students. After completion, accommodation capacity will increase to 3,200 students.A further Rs 29 crore was sanctioned for upgrading the college gymkhana and sports facilities, including arrangements for sports and yoga, ensuring holistic development of students alongside academics.
