Gujarat board exams begin today, 15.2L students set to appear

Ahmedabad: About 15.28 lakh students are set to take the Class 10 and 12 examinations, conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), from today. The exams will be held from Feb 26 to March 18; the Class 12 Science stream exams will conclude on March 16.The board has set up 1,006 centres for Class 10 and 695 centres for Class 12 exams across Gujarat. Authorities have instructed students to reach their respective centres well before time.In Class 10, a total of 9,07,175 students registered, including 7,69,994 regular candidates, 19,825 private candidates, 70,702 repeaters, 5,368 private repeaters, and 41,286 taking exam in one subject. Among them, 4,877 students are registered as people with disabilities. The examination will be conducted across 87 zones, covering 3,243 buildings and 31,001 blocks.For Class 12 general stream, 5,01,286 students have registered, including 4,37,279 regular candidates. The Science stream has 1,19,263 registered candidates, of whom 1,11,294 are regular students. Special arrangements have been made for students with disabilities. To prevent malpractice, all exam centres have been equipped with CCTV surveillance. The board has also put in place a tracking mechanism to monitor question papers until they reach classrooms, ensuring there is no paper leak. Students are strictly prohibited from carrying mobile phones or other electronic devices into examination halls.More than 70 flying squad teams have been deployed across districts to conduct inspections, especially at sensitive centres. Strict action will be taken against any student found engaging in unfair practices.On the first day, Class 10 students will appear for the first-language papers, including Gujarati, Hindi, and English. Class 12 General stream students will take the Cooperative Panchayat and Economics exam, while Science stream students will take the Physics exam.
