Ahmedabad: Indian Army on Feb 12 gave a Guard of Honour to Captain Nilesh Soni on his martyr day. Capt Soni died in Siachen during Operation Meghdoot in 1987.Jagdish Soni, Capt Soni’s elder brother, told TOI that, to his knowledge, Capt Soni was the second from the city to get the honours at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, after Major Rushikesh Ramani, another martyr from the city, who laid his life during an operation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2009.“It was an emotional moment for us as Nilesh was given the Guard of Honour by the Indian Army. It was not only an ode to his bravery and sacrifice, but also a moment of pride for the Soni family. His, and several other bravehearts’ sacrifice will keep on inspiring the generations to come,” said Soni.
