Gridco seeks hike in bulk power supply price for 2026-27

Bhubaneswar: Gridco, the bulk power supplier of the state,urged Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) for a hike of 57.57 paise per unit of power in the bulk supply price (BSP) during the first day of public hearing by the commission here on Monday.Gridco presented its aggregate revenue requirement (ARR) and bulk supply price (BSP) application for the financial year 2026-27 before the OERC, chaired by chairperson Pradeep Kumar Jena.In its ARR and BSP application, Gridco estimated sales of a total of 39,203 million units (MU) of energy to power distribution companies and captive generating plants of 2 companies.While Gridco projected an availability of 46,334 MU of energy from different sources during 2026-27, it proposed trading the available surplus power of about 5,918 MU after meeting the state requirement of 40,416 MU.The bulk power supplier proposed its net revenue requirement to the tune of Rs 15,181 crore for 2026-27. For this, Gridco proposed the average BSP at 388.23 paise/unit for the ensuing financial year, against the approval of 330.66 paise/unit for 2025-26.After the analytical presentation by Gridco, a total of 16 objectors and the representative of the energy department submitted their views on Gridco’s ARR and BSP application.The OERC chairperson asked the govt representative of the energy department to take over a loan of more than Rs 700 crore on Gridco, so that the loan amount would not be passed on to consumers. The govt official present at the hearing said he would discuss the issue with the govt and inform the commission.The public hearing will continue until Feb 21. After the hearing is over, the commission will pass the order on March 23.
