Greater Bengaluru Authority plans to allow boating in 10 lakes

Bengaluru: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) plans to permit boating in 10 lakes in the city. The boats are likely to be pedal ones as officials have decided not to permit motorised ones which are harmful to the ecosystem. The lakes identified are Ulsoor, Kaggadasapura, Nayandahalli, Sankey, Yelahanka, Rachenahalli, Vengaiah, Rampura, Begur, and Madiwala. A senior GBA official said the facility would be introduced by the tourism department, which will collaborate with Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority. “One of the main objectives is to generate revenue for maintenance and infrastructure expenses of lakes,” the official said. Depending on the response, boating could be extended to 100 lakes. tnn
