Govt pre-university college students in Karnataka to get free textbooks

Bengaluru: From the next academic year, govt pre-university students will get their textbooks for free. So far, only textbooks for classes 1-10 were given for free in govt and aided schools. An education department circular said over 27 lakh free textbooks will be printed for PU students.Additionally, children in LKG and UKG will get free books; around 10 lakh books will be printed for these students.In the new academic year, moral science books will be distributed to all students, and over 38 lakh will be printed for the same.However, the circular did not mention free notebooks even though chief minister Siddaramaiah and education minister Madhu Bangarappa had announced free notebooks for all students in govt and aided schools from next year. Sources said the finance department is yet to give approval for the proposal.
