Hyderabad: Paving the way for holding municipal elections in the state, the govt issued reservations for 121 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations on Wednesday night. The reservations were fixed for municipal chairpersons, corporation mayors and ward members as per the recommendations of the dedicated BC commission.Municipal administration secretary TK Sridevi said that, of the total 121 municipalities, five chairperson posts were reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs) as per the 2011 Census, 17 for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 38 for Backward Classes (BCs) as per the dedicated commission’s recommendation. Also, 31 posts were reserved exclusively for women as per the Telangana Municipalities Act, and 30 were general (unreserved).Similarly, for 10 municipal corporations, a mayor post each has been reserved for ST and SC, while three posts were earmarked for BCs. Four mayor posts were given to women, while one mayor post was unreserved, the govt said.The govt also finalised the reservations for wards: SCs and STs as per the 2011 Census, BCs as per the recommendations of the dedicated commission, and women and general categories.Since the reservations have been finalised, Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) is expected to release the election schedule in a couple of days.
