Governor visits Safa Masjid at Ponda

Panaji: The governor of Goa, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, on Sunday visited the archaeological survey of India (ASI)-protected Safa Masjid in Ponda.“The ASI is preserving all these monuments so that people do not lose sight of the heritage that we all have to cherish,” Raju said.Built in 1560 by Ibrahim Adil Shah I of Bijapur, the monument features a laterite stone structure with a prayer hall and a large water tank.“The idea is to come here and learn a lot because Goa teaches us a lot of things. This culture is unique, wherein it has a human approach to living in harmony, where mankind learns from one another and decides not to repeat the mistakes of the past. We need to take this into the future and pass on this harmonious living to the next generation,” he said.“If mankind is to survive amid the many tensions worldwide, and if we do not learn from history, mankind will never overcome those tensions. It is important for all of us to carry that message into the future,” the governor said.Safa Masjid committee president Murtuza Mulla said the historical structure needs repainting, and the CCTV camera installation is pending. Mulla added that a meeting with the superintendent of the ASI, Goa Circle, was sought to address these concerns and expedite the necessary works.
