Kanpur: Property worth lakh was gutted in two separate fire incidents in Kanpur since Tuesday night. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in either case.A fire broke out at a furniture fabricators’ shop on Mandhana-Bithoor Road late on Tuesday night.
Bithoor police station in-charge Premnarayan Vishwakarma, who was on patrol, spotted flames at the shop around 1:30am.
He alerted the fire brigade and the shop owner, Ashwani Sharma. A fire brigade vehicle from Shivrajpur arrived and controlled the fire after strenuous efforts. The owner, a resident of Ramdevipuram Mandhana, indicated the possibility of a short circuit. Plastic and wooden furniture worth approximately Rs 35 to Rs 40 lakh along with a scooter, AC, inverter, laptop and printer were reduced to ashes.
Police were investigating the matter. In the second incident, a massive fire broke out in flat number 606 on the 6th floor of Geetika Heights apartment in Kohna, in the Kohna police station area of Kanpur on Wednesday.
High flames and smoke started emanating from the flat. The fire brigade was immediately informed, after which fire tenders from Colonelganj fire station reached the spot. Under the supervision of the Chief Fire Officer, firefighters extinguished the fire before it could spread to other rooms and flats. No casualties were reported. Items kept in the bedroom were damaged. CFO Deepak Sharma said, “Prima facie, the cause of the fire in both incidents was believed to be a short circuit. In the Kohna fire incident, the fire safety equipment installed in the apartment was also being examined.”
