During the probe, the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate arrested five persons said to be close to the BDO. To avoid arrest, Burman moved a lower court seeking anticipatory bail, which was granted by a Barasat district court. The police subsequently challenged the order in the Calcutta HC, which cancelled the anticipatory bail. Following this, the Bidhannagar ACJM issued a warrant for Burman’s arrest.Burman then approached the SC seeking relief. However, on Monday, the apex court refused to grant protection from arrest and directed him to surrender before the competent court within the stipulated time. “He will have to surrender before the court now within this week. Once police get to arrest and question him, the investigation will pick up pace,” said Bivas Chattopadhyay, a state counsel.
